WIsconsin Land Owners

Dear Woodland Owner:

We invite you to a series of educational classes designed to help you better understand and manage your woodlands. The classes will focus on:

• Understanding the different harvesting techniques
• Threats to the health of your forest
• Finding technical and financial assistance
• The steps to a successful timber harvest

Whether you are a long-time woodland owner or someone completely new to the experience, the classes will have much to offer. Please take a moment to look through this brochure for the “how, when, and why” of the Learn about your Land
woodland classes.

LOCATIONS:

Crandon: CoVantage Credit Union

502 W. Pioneer St.
Class sessions: Mondays 6–8 pm
The CoVantage Credit Union is on Pioneer St., five blocks west of the intersection of Pioneer St. and Lake Avenue in Crandon.

Oconto Falls: Oconto Falls High School
210 N. Farm Rd.
Class sessions: Tuesdays 6–8 pm
If following Hwy 22 Westbound: turn left onto County I just before the city limits, then go 1.5 miles and turn right on Columbia Street. Go one block and turn left on Farm Road. The high school is just ahead on the left.
If following Hwy 22 Eastbound: Hwy 22 becomes Main Street. Go straight on Main Street through downtown. Stay on Main Street, then turn left onto Farm Road. The high school is at the end of the block on the right.

Florence: Florence Natural Resource Center
5628 Forestry Dr.
Class sessions: Wednesdays 6–8 pm
The Florence Natural Resource Center is located on Forestry Dr., one block south on Hwy 70/101 from the intersection of
Hwy 70/101 and Hwy 2.

Crivitz: Crivitz High School
400 South Ave.
Class sessions: Thursdays 6–8 pm
From US Hwy 141: Turn west onto South Avenue. Proceed straight from South Avenue into the high school parking lot.

Registration information

Pre-registration is appreciated, but not required.
Receive a forestry book if you pre-register for the entire series!
Registration is $20 for the entire series or $10 per session.

"To Cut or Not to Cut"
Do you wonder whether you need to cut trees? Are you getting ready for a harvest? Gain an understanding of what is meant by thinning, selection harvest, group selection harvest, clear cut and shelterwood harvest. Learn what each term
means, when each is used, and what it will look like if recommended for your woodland.

"Introduction to Timber Harvesting & Sales"

Learn the steps and timeline involved in conducting a successful timber sale from establishment to selling to harvest. This workshop will introduce you to how to select a logger, why a timber sale contract is important, and steps involved in conducting a harvest.

"Assistance with Your Woodlands"
A healthy, productive woodland requires investment of time and money, and knowledge of specific techniques. This session will introduce you to the people, programs and organizations that offer technical and financial assistance in all aspects of your woodland.

"Forest Health"
Learn to identify the common insect and disease problems that most woodland owners face in Wisconsin, and what you can do to keep your forest healthy. DNR Regional Forest Health Specialists will be the featured speakers.
