Summary of Upper Green Bay Basin Riparian Integrated Ecosystem Management (IEM) Project


Mission Statement:
To promote a cooperative partnering effort to maintain and/or enhance water quality and biodiversity associated with shoreline and adjacent upland ecosystems on private riparian lands

Project Objectives:

Design and implement a public participation strategy for identifying project boundaries

Identify property specific management activities appropriate for application within the riparian zone and adjacent lands

Design and implement a cooperative project to identify educational, technical, and financial assistance needs and opportunities for project success

Design and implement a program to develop, with individual riparian property owners, stewardship management plans which incorporate the identified management activities and which will be compatible with water quality and ecosystem concepts 

Stewardship Management Plans: The plans should address the maintenance, enhancement, or development of the following:

  • Water quality issues (i.e. non-point source pollution)
  • Wetland areas
  • Riparian areas (stream bank corridors and shorelines)
  • Evaluation and maintenance of drainage systems
  • Evaluation and maintenance of aquatic resources
  • Evaluations of the impacts to the fisheries resources
  • Grassland nesting species and cover
  • Best management practices to sustain forests and forest dependent species
  • Non-game and game species
  • Pre-settlement land cover
  • Habitats for diversity
  • Impacts of development on terrestrial and aquatic habitat
  • Recreational opportunities
  • All adjacent landowner uses
