Citizens Advisory Committee for the Remedial Action Plan in the
Lower Menominee River Area of Concern

During the late 1980s and early 1990s, the Lower Menominee River Area of Concern (AOC) Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) was actively involved in the AOC process and assisted with the development of a number of AOC-related documents, including the 1990 and 1996 Remedial Action Plans (RAPs). These RAPs identified the Beneficial Use Impairments (BUIs) for the AOC, summarized the status of those BUIs, and offered recommendations for meeting environmental cleanup goals. The advisory committee was inactive during the 2000s but reconvened in 2009.

The committee ensures that local concerns are considered and citizens' interests are represented in AOC-related efforts. CAC meetings are currently held on the second Wednesday of each month, except for December. Meetings are usually held at UW-Marinette's Field House/YMCA. The committee is co-chaired by representatives from the City of Marinette and the City of Menominee.

Committee members are currently learning about a proposed plan for restoring the Lake Michigan lake sturgeon population. A conceptual fish passage plan provides information about what is being proposed. CAC members are encouraged to review this document prior to the November 11th meeting.
