Private Forestry within the Upper Chippewa River Basin

When you think of "Wisconsin's Northwoods," do you think of vast areas of public forest land?  Many people do, but did you know that a majority (58%)of the forest land within the Upper Chippewa Basin is privately owned?  In fact, a majority of Wisconsin's forestland is privately owned.  See the figure below.

Private landowners hold an important place in shaping the future of Wisconsin's bountiful forests.  If you are one of them, consider your role in that effort.  You can be partly responsible for the continued health of our forest resources or you could be partly responsible for exacerbating current problems like forest fragmentation, the spread of exotic or invasive species, and the lack of endangered species habitat.  Take advantage of the technical assistance that is available from foresters, wildlife professionals, and others in order to get the most from your forestland.
