	BACK to Main Map Wildlife Areas   LOCATION FEATURES 1 New Munster Wildlife Area 1 mi. S. of New Munster on Hwy 50 and 1 mi. NE of Twin Lakes on CTH KD. Principal Wildlife: Pheasants, woodcock, furbearers, waterfowl, deer, sandhill cranes. Other Recreation: Hiking, birdwatching, hunting. 2 Bloomfield Wildlife Area 2 mi. SE of Lake Geneva on Hwy 12. 3 separate parcels; access off Bloomfield & Litchfield roads. Principal Wildlife: Pheasants, deer, woodcock, waterfowl. Other Recreation: Wildlife watching, hiking, hunting. 3 Lyons Wildlife Area 2 mi. NE of Lake Geneva on Buckby Rd. Principal Wildlife: Pheasants and waterfowl. Other Recreation: Hiking, birdwatching, canoeing, hunting. Habitat: Stream, marsh, forest, farmland, grassland. 4 Karcher Marsh State Natural Area 5 mi. S. of Burlington on Hwy 83; access on Karcher Rd. Principal Wildlife: Pheasants, woodcock, waterfowl, deer. Other Recreation: Hiking, birdwatching, hunting. 5 Kishwauketoe Conservancy Visitors may park in the lot at the intersection of Hwy 67 & Stark St. (at the Lions Field House) in the Village of Williams Bay. Recreation: Self-guided tour along four miles of walking paths. Habitats include prairie, woodlot, deciduous forest, a trout stream and wetland. 6 Beulah Station Wildlife Area 3 mi. E. of East Troy on Hill Valley Rd. Principal Wildlife: Deer and waterfowl. Other Recreation: Birdwatching, hiking, hunting. 7 Beulah Bog Natural Area 2 mi. NW of East Troy on Stringers Bridge Rd. Principal Wildlife: Deer and waterfowl. Other Recreation: Birdwatching, hiking, hunting. 8 Troy Wildlife Area 3 mi. N. of Elkhorn. Access on Hwy A & Hodges & Peck Station Roads. Principal Wildlife: Pheasants, ducks, deer, furbearers, woodcock. Other Recreation: Hiking, birdwatching, hunting. 9 Tichigan Wildlife Area 3 mi. NW of Waterford on Marsh Rd. Access off of Marsh Rd., Bridge Dr. and N. Lake Dr. Boat launch off of Bridge Dr. Principal Wildlife: Waterfowl, pheasants, furbearers, deer, woodcock, sandhill cranes, blanding’s turtles, forester’s and black terns, great egrets, during migration common terns. Other Recreation: Canoeing, boating, birdwatching, fishing, hunting. 10 Honey Creek Wildlife Area 3 separate parcels: Parcel 1) 2 mi. N. of Burlington on Maple Rd.; Parcel 2) 1 mi. SW of Rochester on CTH W; & Parcel 3) 3 mi. W. of Rochester on Hwy FF & Oak Knoll Rd. Principal Wildlife: Pheasants, furbearers, waterfowl, deer, woodcock, sandhill cranes, blanding’s turtles, common terns, great egrets. Other Recreation: Canoeing on Long Lake, hiking, birdwatching, hunting. 11 Vernon Wildlife Area 1⁄2 mi. NE of Mukwonago. Access off Hwy 83, Frog Alley Rd., CTH I, Benson Ave. and CTH NN, boat launch off Frog Alley Rd. Principal Wildlife: Pheasants, waterfowl, furbearers, deer, woodcock, sandhill cranes. Other Recreation: Hiking, birdwatching, canoeing, fishing, hunting. 12 Bong State Recreation Area 7 mi. SE of Burlington on Hwy 142, or 8 mi. W. of I-94 on Hwy 142. Principal Wildlife: Pheasants, waterfowl, furbearers, grassland birds: bobolinks, eastern meadow­larks, savanna sparrows, grassland sparrows; great blue herons, green-backed herons, great egrets, Blanding’s turtles. Other Recreation: Dog training\trial grounds, hiking\cross-country skiing, hang-gliding, ATV and dirt bike trails, snowmobiling, hot air ballooning, horseback riding trails, swimming, boating, camping, hunting. 13 Kettle Moraine State Forest-Southern Unit S91 W39091 Hwy 59, Eagle, WI Recreation: Camping, hiking, swimming, picnicking, fishing, boating, hunting. 14 Big Muskego Lake Wildlife Area Lake access via Durham Drive and Boxhorn Drive. Access to upland habitat via Parker Rd, 2 mi. S. junction of CTH L and Y in Muskego. Principal Wildlife: Waterfowl, large wetland dependent species like Forster’s terns, redhead ducks, yellow-headed blackbirds, muskrats, marsh wrens, egrets, bitterns, rails, coots, gallinules. Occasionally and during migration osprey, white pelicans, scaup, canvasbacks, Caspian terns. Upland areas – deer, pheasants, coyotes. Other Recreation: Hunting, canoeing, birdwatching, fishing. 15 Lulu Lake Natural Area From intersection of CTH Rds. N and J in Troy Center (4.5 mi. NW of East Troy), go east on J 1 mi. to parking areas N. of road. Principal Wildlife: Waterfowl, grassland birds (including pheasants, mallards, blue-winged teal, bobolinks, meadowlarks), and fall and spring migration are impressive (including 800+ sand-hill cranes and thousands of geese). Area is closed to all entry from Sept. 1 - Dec. 31, but can be viewed from the town roads easily. Other Recreation: Canoeing, Fishing. 16 Peterkin Marsh Wildlife Refuge 3 mi. N. of Lake Geneva. S. on CTH H to West Side Rd., then 2.5 mi. to roadside parking and access trail. Principal Wildlife: Pheasants, waterfowl, furbearers, deer, woodcock, sandhill cranes.
