RRC Groundwater Issue Team
Since 1999, the Rock River Coalition Groundwater Issue Team has worked on a number of projects to address groundwater issues within the Rock River Basin. Past efforts include the development of an award winning brochure and display on the concerns of shallow limestone geology (karst), hosting well abandonment workshops, developing a groundwater data resource guide and providing groundwater risk assessments for farmers.

Groundwater and Planning
The Rock River Coalition is working to ensure that every land use plan considers the importance of groundwater, preferably linking future decisions on growth and development to the GFLOW model. We have offered workshops and written articles on this and will continue to develop other offerings. More information on the importance on planning for our groundwater resources is available at the Center for Land Use Education website. |
GFLOW Model
We are excited to announce the completion of a basin-wide computer Groundwater-flow model. This project has been nine years in the making and it is now ready for use!
The Basin does not have a regional planning commission so the RRC spearheaded this project for the benefit of all communities in the Basin.
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in cooperation with the Rock River Coalition (RRC), constructed a groundwater-flow model of the Rock River Basin in Wisconsin using the computer program GFLOW.
View the USGS Rock River Basin GFLOW Report. This project could not have been done without the generous support of sponsors including communities, businesses, individuals, organizations and agencies. Below are links to important documents explaining the project, followed by the list of supporters and contact information.

The GFLOW model can help municipalities:
- Model will help municipalities assess their available groundwater supply.
- Develop the groundwater component of Comprehensive Plans,
- Predict the migration of contaminant plume after spills,
- Help answer a wide range of resource management questions,
- Predict the impact of development of new wells on groundwater quantity.
