Lower Fox River Basin TMDL Outreach

In fall 2006, the Lower Fox River Basin TMDL Outreach Committee was formed to guide communication and education efforts. The committee is chaired by Victoria Harris, UW-Sea Grant Institute Water Quality Specialist, and includes representatives from UW-Extension, Green Bay Metropolitan Sewerage District, Brown County, UW-Green Bay, Oneida Tribe of Indians, and WDNR. To date, the Outreach Committee has accomplished the following:

  • initiated facilitated stakeholder discussions with farmers, crop consultants, agency staff, and storm water officials;
  • collaborated with UW-Extension and USEPA to develop evaluation tools for farmer attitudes and nonpoint source pollution practices in the basin;
  • presented information to a variety of groups including the Point Source Dischargers Association and the Brown County Conservation Alliance;
  • assisted with the development of print and web-based materials;
  • met with the Green Bay Press-Gazette editorial board; and,
  • assisted with two public meetings (held on January 23, 2008) to introduce the TMDL process.

Some of the outreach products from these activities are listed below.
