In 1998 the Department of Natural Resources formed the Wisconsin Lake Superior Public Advisory Team ("Partner Team"). Invitation letters from Secretary Meyer went to 45 individuals representing a variety of interests. The charge was to advise the state on Lake Superior Binational Program implementation, including special designations. Members include previous vocal proponents and opponents of special designation options. Sec. Meyer participated in their kick-off meeting. The group started with less divisive issues: mercury reduction and project funding, to develop working relationships. From the start, land use and watershed health emerged as priorities.
