Protecting Working Forests Through Local Public Policy
Linda Stoll, Outreach Specialist, Center for Land Use Education, Univ. of WI-Stevens Point, Stevens Point, WI

Are you concerned about forest fragmentation? Loss of wildlife habitat? User conflicts on recreational land? Trouble with neighbors when you harvest? These issues are directly impacted by local community and county land use practices and policies. This session will help private land owners understand how community land use decisions affect woodlands, learn about various tools and policies that could be enacted at the local level and how they as private land owners can work toward protecting their woodlands. A resource kit will be provided that attendees can use to assist them in improving their community and county policies and plans.

Linda Stoll lives in Menasha , WI and holds an academic staff position at the University of Wisconsin- Stevens Point as an outreach specialist in the Center for Land Use Education. She is currently leading a study on creating livable communities as an economic development strategy for rural communities and researching the fiscal impact of housing density as well as presenting a series of sessions on protecting working lands. She is also involved in several initiatives exploring sustainable community design and local food promotion. Linda holds additional certifications in facilitation, strategic planning, mediation, and consensus building. She currently serves as the chair of the Great Lakes Chapter of the International Association for Public Participation, as Continuing Education Officer on the board of the WI Chapter of the American Planning Association, and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners.
