Chainsaw Use: Directional Tree Felling
Cary Shepherd, National Training Specialist, Forest Applications Instructor, Husqvarna, Strongsville, OH

This presentation is designed for people of all experience levels. Our focus will be on a Directional Tree Felling Plan that includes taking information on Hazards & Obstacles, Tree Leans, Escape Route, Notch & Hinge, and Back Cut. An introduction to Personal Protective Equipment, Chain Saw Maintenance, Safe Starting, Reactive Forces, and Height Measure will also be discussed.

Cary Shepherd is a Forest Applications Instructor with Husqvarna's Forest Application Training, Inc. He has spent 18 years organizing & presenting chain saw safety & application programs to groups across the United States including Smoky Mountains National Park, Virginia DOT, University of Florida, Boonville N.Y. Logging Show, Ohio Forestry Assoc., Richmond Logging Show, International Society of Arboriculture, Massachusetts Dept. of Conservation & Recreation, Cal Poly Technical University, and Oregon Cutting Systems. Cary is a voting member of the ANSI Z133, American National Standards Institute accredited committee for Arboriculture Operations, and is the Chair Person for the Chain Saw Subgroup.
