Building a Rain Barrel
Learn how a rain barrel can help conserve water and keep our lakes & streams clean at an upcoming workshop.  Then build a barrel to take home.  Rain barrels are used to collect rain that drains from your roof and runs down the gutters.

A quarter-inch of rain falling on the average home yields a little over 200 gallons of water, and can fill a barrel in a matter of minutes.  This water can then be used to water plants and gardens.  This water would normally run across our lawns and driveways into the storm drains.  Along the way, this water picks up fertilizers, oil, and other pollutants.  This water is not treated before it runs directly into our lakes and streams.  The workshop sponsored by the North Central Wisconsin Stormwater Coalition and the University of Wisconsin-Extension.  Seating is limited, arrive early to register. For questions, contact Kris Tiles, UW-Extension Basin Educator for Natural Resources at 715.261.1254.
